Breaking News!

Somewhere in Time, Unlimited (SITU) sponsors historic costumed social events in the Seattle vicinity which reflect the most enjoyable aspects of past eras.

On this website, you will find information about our scheduled upcoming events, activities in which you can participate, photos from our past events, educational information such as classes or articles,  links to other costume sites, a few of our past newsletters, information from The Sewing Circle with upcoming sessions or suggestions on obtaining fabric deals, "Dress Up Opportunities" which are for fun, mostly non-SITU activities (little "fill-in" sort of opportunities) to which you can arrive individually or as a group in costume.

The SITU “season” commences with an opulent holiday ball.  We have danced our way through Old Vienna, Georgian and Dickens’ England, and the Russia of the Romanovs.

Spring and Autumn events are typically smaller and more informal.  Themes have included an 18th century fair, a Gothic  literary tea, a 19th  century explorer’s  gathering, a 1920s speakeasy, a nightclub in 1930s Shanghai, and murder mysteries.

Summer features al fresco events such as garden parties, Victorian bathing parties, a day at the horse races, a cricket match, and a tiger hunt in the India of the Raj!

Events may include a potluck meal or tea, contests and games, period music, dancing, entertainment, or trips to historic sites.  They are always fun for singles,  couples and families.  Every attempt is made to keep costs reasonable.

SITU social activities are produced by our members, and all are encouraged to participate in planning and creating the events!

Our membership is drawn from all around the greater Puget Sound, Seattle, Washington area.  Although we gather most of our members from the Seattle area, we have always had a small but active group in Portland and a smattering of members further away.  Everyone with an interest in history and costuming is welcome.

Costumes need not be elaborate or expensive – we ask only that those who attend an event make an attempt at period costume to add to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the occasion.  Help with costumes is always available from our  members, and there is a Sewing or Design Circle that meets regularly. SITU is now offering various Workshops where members and friends can learn "How to Costume", how to sew specific outfits, make or decorate hats, or any other number of "how to" themes.

Our website now offers a page dedicated to costume or tea items for sale by members.  Perhaps you will find a wonderful treasure there!

SITU periodically sends a newsletter to our members covering upcoming SITU events,  costume hints, historical background and activities in the community at large with a costume or historical fashion emphasis.

Membership in SITU is $15 per year to cover the cost of publishing and mailing the newsletter.  Also, many events have lower costs especially for members.  By going to our Contacts Page, you see the list of the current Board, you can download the 2009 membership form, or have one sent or emailed to you.

We invite you to stroll thru our website and enjoy the many features and photos.  If we can be of help to you in any way, please contact the Web Mistress with any suggestions or comments.
